happy st. paddy’s day! an update on my post-navy life: one year later

Happy Saint Paddy’s Day y’all!! Not only is this my favorite holiday, but it’s also my out-of-the-Navy anniversary! It has already been one whole year since I got out of the Navy, and MAN has it been a busy one! My photography business has sky rocketed this past year, and I am so hopeful for my future. Seriously, the day I got out of the Navy just felt like a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders, and I have noticed throughout this past year I am just a happier person all around. Unfortunately, the Navy was just draining the life out of me. I had to get out of that environment, and I am so glad I did. For anyone that asks how my time in the Navy was, I will always and forever say: joining the Navy was the best decision I’ve ever made…but getting out is also the best decision I’ve ever made.

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse because I know I’ve said this many times, however I’ve never blogged about it, so here goes. I promise I’ll try to keep it short and sweet!

If you’re like me (or like I was) and you’re not happy with your job, no matter what it is, leave. That’s it. Just leave. Obviously, do it the right way. Get your affairs in order, put in a notice, set up new employment, school, or whatever the case may be and just leave. Don’t ever be too afraid to chase your dreams, and don’t ever let someone tell you that your dreams are impossible and that chasing them is a waste of time. Dreams are meant to be chased, not trapped inside of you, and no matter how long it takes to achieve those dreams, it is never wasted time.

I have so many people ask me “Do you ever regret getting out?” HECK NO. I had dreams I wanted to chase…or better yet, needed to chase, and another reenlistment wasn’t going to get me anywhere near those dreams. In fact, my last year or so in the Navy was not only drawing me further and further away from my dreams, but it was also drawing me further and further away from internal happiness. I was so unhappy, and that is not a way to live. If the Navy is your thing and you’re totally digging it, by all means stay put. However, I see 99.99% of you on social media complaining about early morning muster, duty weekends, PRT’s, and long work days. Sure, those things are minor, however if it’s not your jam and you’re over it, then (you guessed it) just leave. Go chase your dreams. Do something that makes you happy. When it’s time to do your C-WAY applications, don’t let that arrogant, sexist, manipulative, asshat-of-a-boss you have tell you that you’re not good enough to do anything outside of the Navy. It’s not true. You. Are. Good. Enough.

Like I said before, I wanted to keep this short and *semisweet* and to the point, and I think I did just that. So, if you’ve made it this far, thank you so much! Really, I appreciate all of the love and support I’ve received from everyone this past year, and I thank you all for enabling me to chase my dreams. In light of that, I’d like to extend a special offer to you in honor of my one year anniversary of leaving the place that made me unhappy, and chasing the dreams that make me smile. New clients: 15% off any regular session. Past clients: 25% off any regular session. Cannot be used on any sessions that are already booked, cannot be combined with any previous offers, and are not valid on mini sessions. This offer will expire next year, on my two-year anniversary! I am purposely putting this in the middle of a paragraph, and not advertising it anywhere else, because I’d like to see how many people actually read my blog posts, and only extend this offer to them! So, if you’re here, you’re the best.

xoxo

Jes
